Fabric Tassels

These tassels are inspired by a holiday project we saw recently using crepe paper. We figured, if you can make them out of paper, we can probably make them out of fabric! So, without further ado, here's how:

Our tassels are approximately 9 inches in length.

Here's what you'll need for each tassel:

- A strip of fabric 18.5(l) x 10(w)

-Approximately 2 inches of ribbon per tassel

**If you want a tassel that is not as long as ours, we recommend adjusting both the length and width of the tassel. Simply shortening the 18.5 down, and leaving the width the same will result in a very bulky tassel.*

Tools you'll need:

Hot glue gun

Rotary cutter

Mat

Ruler

Please make sure to read through all the steps before you begin!

Step One:

**Plug your hot glue gun in now, so it's warmed up and ready to go when we get to it in step 5!**

Take your 18.5x10 piece of fabric, and fold in half, with wrong sides together so you have a piece that is 9.25 tall x10 wide

  

Step Two:

With your fold at the top, measure 1/2 inch in from the left side of your fabric, and 7 inches up from the bottom. Use your rotary cutter to slice every 1/2 inch across the 10" width of your fabric. Each slice should measure 7 inches up from the bottom of your fabric. 

*Make sure not to cut through the fold. There should be approximately 2 inches of uncut fabric along the top edge*



Step Three:

Unfold your fabric, (with the wrong side facing up) so your slices are on the left and right sides, and your 18.5 inch side is in front of you. Begin rolling your fabric at one of the 18.5 inch sides as tightly as possible

Step Four:

Fold the roll in half, trying to center the raw edge of your roll on the underside of the loop 

Step Five:

Measure out how much ribbon you'll need to wrap around the tassel (probably between 1.5-2 inches). Place a dab of hot glue on one edge of your ribbon, and wrap it tightly around the tassel, pressing the other end onto the dab of glue firmly for 5-10 seconds

Step Six:

Repeat steps 1-5 to create the desired number of tassels. We strung ours on the same ribbon we used to secure them.
